Prevent Longterm Sun Damage to your Skin

The sun always feels great to me, and some sun exposure is healthy, but too much sun long term is very bad for your skin. It will not only make you look old and wrinkled before your time, but can also cause serious and potentially deadly medical conditions like cancer.

Some skin care tips are given.

1) The sun is at it’s brightest between 11 and 2 or perhaps 10 and 3 in the tropics. Try to stay out of the sun during these times, especially in the summer if not in the tropics. You can cause damage even in the winter, although much less likely at certain times, for example in December in New England.

2) Sunscreen is very effective and widely available.. Sunscreens come with many different ratings, Buy one with a high rating, typically 30 or above is recommended, and use it several times daily.

3) When you can, cover up in the sun. This is especially important when the sun is at its brightest and it’s summer or you’re in the tropics. Long sleeves on shorts, long pants, socks to protect your feet, and a hat can make a big difference. This won’t always be possible of course, if for example swimming or playing on the beach.
