  Career Exploration   The process of finding a rewarding career path, as well as specific jobs within a particular career path. Think of career exploration and planning as building bridges from your current job/career to your next job/career. People of all ages -- from teens trying to explore careers for the first time to mature workers seeking to find a new career for recareering -- use various methods of career exploration to help uncover careers that offer fulfillment  
 
  Career Fair   There are many types of job and career fairs -- from those scheduled during Spring Break for college students to industry-specific fairs for professionals -- but they all have a common theme: a chance for a company to meet and screen a large volume of potential job candidates while simultaneously an opportunity for job-seekers to meet and screen a large number of employers  
 
  Career Objective/Job Objective   An optional part of your resume, but something you should contemplate whether you place it on your resume or not. It can sharpen the focus of your resume and should be as specific as possible -- and written in a way that shows how you can benefit the employer  
 
  Career Passion   One of the most important elements of personal happiness is being passionate about your career and your job. If you no longer have -- or never have had -- personal and professional fulfillment from your job, there is always time to discover a career for which you do have passion.  
 
  Career Planning   The continuous process of evaluating your current lifestyle, likes/dislikes, passions, skills, personality, dream job, and current job and career path and making corrections and improvements to better prepare for future steps in your career, as needed, or to make a career change.  
 
  Career Vision Statement   A set of career goals that a job-seeker sets for the long-term, typically five years or more. The purpose of a career vision statement is to give you a clear direction for the future; it is a vision that has been committed to paper to guide you in making future choices.  
 
  Catalyst   A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction, but is not itself changed during the reaction.  
 
  CBA   Computer-Aided (or computer-assisted) Instruction;  
 
  Cell   The smallest structural unit of living organisms that is able to grow and reproduce independently.  
 
  Cell culture   A technique for growing cells under laboratory conditions.  
 
  Cell fusion   The formation of a hybrid cell produced by fusing two different cells  
 
  Chromosome   Components in a cell that contain genetic information. Each chromosome contains numerous genes. Chromosomes occur in pairs: one obtained from the mother; the other from the father. Chromosomes of different pairs are often visibly different from each other  
 
  Clone   A cell or collection of cells containing identical genetic material. Clones are produced from a single parent cell.  
 
  Coder   even a small agency will have a Flash developer, HTML coder and a database expert. Database refers to the use of databases running the content on sites and within games for instance, not peoples  
 
  Contract Employee   Where you work for one organization (and its salary and benefit structure) that sells your services to another company on a project or time basis. Compare to freelancer.  
 
  Copywriter   is often paired up with an art director to work as a team. This pair will often work as a team to originate the idea, but fall on their individual skills as the project progresses. In online they are often paired with someone from the technical department. Some of the larger agencies have dedicated copywriters.  
 
  Corporate Culture   The collection of beliefs, expectations, and values shared by an organization's members and transmitted from one generation of employees to another. The culture sets norms (rules of conduct) that define acceptable behavior of employees of the organization. It's important for job-seekers to understand the culture of an organization before accepting a job.  
 
  Counter Offer/Counter Proposal   A salary negotiation technique used by job-seekers when a job offer is not at an acceptable level. Almost all elements of a job offer are negotiable, including the salary, non-salary compensation, moving expenses, benefits, and job-specific issues.  
 
  Creative director   overall responsibility of the creative department and creative output.  
 
  Culture   To grow living organisms in a prepared medium or media.  
 
  Culture medium   A nutrient system for artificially growing bacteria or other cells.  
 
  Customer Service Manager   Hires, trains and manages member of the customer service department. Resolves difficult issues regarding client complaints and other matters. Works closely with managers in other departments, such as sales, on updating policies and procedures for client services.  
 
  Customer Service Representative   Duties include receiving and placing telephone calls. Maintains solid customer relationships by handling their questions and concerns with speed and professionalism. Performs data entry and uses software programs. Also may require research skills to trouble shoot customer problems. Excellent communication abilities are essential.  
 
  Data Entry Specialist   Inputs information from a variety of sources into a computer database. May take customer orders and enter them into a pre-established tracking system.  
 
  Declining Letter   A letter sent to an employer to turn down a job offer. The writer should keep the door open in case he or she would like to approach the employer again someday.  
 
  DEET   Department of Employment, Education and Training, superseded by the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA) which was, in turn, superseded by the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DETYA) and the Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business (DEWRSB). DETYA was later superseded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).  
 
  Degrees & Certifications   Recognition bestowed on students upon completion of a unified program of study, including high school, trade schools, colleges and universities, and other agencies.  
 
  DELTA   The Queensland Government's Direct Entry Level Training Administration database.

  Digital sales manager   will be responsible for assessing and developing new online business opportunities, starting and building working relationships with clients and managing other members of the sales team. A sales manager will also be responsible for reporting  
 
  Diversity Job-Seekers   Numerous disadvantaged groups -- women and minorities -- often face extra challenges in the job-search.  
 
  DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)   The chemical molecule that is the basic genetic material found in all cells. DNA is inherited. Because DNA is a very long, thin molecule, it is packaged into units called chromosomes. DNA belongs to a class of biological molecules called nucleic acids.  
 
  Double helix   A term used to describe the configuration of a DNA molecule. The helix consists of two spiraling strands of nucleotides held together with chemical bonds.  
 
  E. coli (Escherichia coli)   A bacterium commonly found in the intestinal tracts of most vertebrates. It is used extensively in recombinant DNA research because it has been genetically well characterized.  
 
  EC   European Commission.  
 
  Electronic Resume (or E-Resume)   A resume (see resume) that is sent to the employer electronically, either via email, by submitting to Internet job boards, or residing on their on Web page. Includes numerous formats of resumes linked by their mode of delivery.  
 
  ELTECO   Electrical & Electronic Industry Training Committee.  
 
  Entry-Level Administrative Assistant   Performs a variety of Internet research functions and uses word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Duties also include fielding telephone calls, filing and data entry. May assist with overflow work from administrative and executive assistants, and fill in for the office receptionist as needed.  
 
  Enzyme   A protein that accelerates the rate of chemical reactions. Enzymes are catalysts that promote reactions repeatedly, without being damaged by the reactions.  
 
  Eukaryote   An organism whose genetic material is located within a nucleus. Yeast, fungi, protozoans, plants and animals are eukaryotes.  
 
  Executive Assistant   Performs administrative duties for executive management. Responsibilities may include screening calls, making travel and meeting arrangements, preparing reports and financial data, training and supervising other support staff, and customer relations. Requires strong computer and internet research skills. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.  
 
  FAFPESC   Forest and Forest Products Employment Skills Company Ltd, a national industry training advisory body.  
 
  Fermentation   A process of growing microorganisms to produce various chemical or pharmaceutical compounds. Microbes are usually incubated under specific conditions in large tanks called fermenters. Fermentation is a specific type of bioprocessing.  
 
  FINBUS   Finance, Insurance and Business Services.  
 
  Freelancer/Consultant/Independent Contractor   Where you work for yourself and bid for temporary jobs and projects with one or more employers. Freelancing is not an alternative to hard work, but many people enjoy the freedom, flexibility, and satisfaction of working for themselves.  
 
  Gene   A unit of hereditary information. A gene is a section of a DNA molecule that specifies the production of a particular protein.  
 
  Gene amplification   The increase, within a cell, of the number of copies of a given gene.  
 
  Gene mapping   Determining the relative locations of genes on a chromosome.  
 
  Genetic engineering   The technique of removing, modifying or adding genes to a DNA molecule in order to change the information it contains. By changing this information, genetic engineering changes the type or amount of proteins an organism is capable of producing.  
 
  Genotype   The specific genetic makeup of an organism, as contrasted with the actual characteristics of an organism (see phenotype).
